Can permanent residents or immigrants apply for CDCP?

Yes — permanent residents, newcomers, and certain immigrants in Canada can apply for the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) as long as they meet the core eligibility criteria.

Here’s what’s required:

✅ Who Is Eligible?

  • Be a Canadian resident (citizen, permanent resident, or protected person)
  • Have no access to private dental insurance
  • Have a family net income under $90,000
  • Be up to date on tax filings (or have a guardian who is, for children)

🧾 Documentation You May Need

  • Proof of permanent resident status (PR card, COPR)
  • SIN number (to apply through CRA My Account)
  • Filed Canadian tax return (most recent year)

🌍 Who May Not Be Eligible

  • Temporary residents or visitors
  • Work or study permit holders without permanent residency
