The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a new government program designed to help eligible Canadians access affordable dental services. While the plan is being rolled out in stages, it already covers a wide range of essential treatments.
Here’s what’s typically covered under the CDCP as of 2025:
🦷 Basic Preventive Services
- Routine dental exams
- Cleanings and polishing
- Fluoride treatments
- X-rays (bitewing, panoramic, and periapical)
- Oral hygiene instruction
These services help maintain oral health and detect problems early.
🦷 Restorative Treatments
- Fillings (composite or amalgam)
- Root canal therapy (on select teeth)
- Tooth extractions (simple and some surgical)
- Prefabricated and stainless-steel crowns
Restorative treatments aim to preserve your natural teeth and prevent further complications.
😁 Other Covered Services
- Denture services (partial and complete, including relines and repairs)
- Emergency dental care
- Diagnostic services
- Some services, like periodontal treatments (for gum disease), may be covered if medically necessary and pre-approved.
⚠️ What’s Not Covered (Generally)
- Cosmetic procedures (e.g., teeth whitening, veneers)
- Orthodontics (unless further updates are introduced)
- Full ceramic or gold crowns (unless no other option is clinically appropriate)
Always check with your dental provider or the CDCP website for the most current list, as coverage details can vary by province or change over time.
