Dental insurance helps reduce the cost of maintaining your oral health — but not all plans are created equal. Understanding what’s included (and what’s not) helps you make the most of your coverage.
Here’s what a typical Canadian dental insurance plan may include:
🦷 Basic Preventive Services
- Dental exams
- X-rays
- Cleanings and polishing
- Fluoride treatments
- Sealants (especially for children)
These services are usually covered 100% or close to it under most plans.
🦷 Basic Restorative Services
- Fillings (composite or amalgam)
- Simple extractions
- Emergency exams or temporary fillings
Typically covered at 70%–90%, depending on your plan.
👑 Major Services (May Have Lower Coverage)
- Root canals
- Crowns and bridges
- Dentures and repairs
- Periodontal (gum) treatments
These are often covered at 50%–70%, with annual or lifetime limits.
😁 What’s Not Usually Covered
- Cosmetic procedures (whitening, veneers)
- Orthodontics (unless specified)
- Sedation or general anaesthesia (some exceptions)
Always review your benefits booklet or ask your provider what’s included — or we can check it for you.
🇨🇦 Tip for Canadian Patients
Many plans reset every calendar year. Use your benefits before they expire to avoid losing coverage for cleanings or treatments you need.
